01-02-10 So Close I Had To Push Off The Car
Location: "Hyde Road, Manchester"
Incident: "Cycling along on my merry way down the bus lane when an Audi passes that close to me I have to push myself off the front of his car to move away, otherwise a collision would have occurred. The driver is completely oblivious and drives on. I have three rear lights (one solid, two flashing), a high viz back pack cover and Altura Night Vision clothing (ie: I glow in the dark)."

Do you think the car driver could have been overtaken dangerously if you’d been 3 feet from the kerb rather than 6 inches? Instead of waiting for a law to come into effect to make the cagers legally obliged to not overtake if it’s unsafe to do so, position yourself in the middle of the lane so cagers CANT overtake unsafely
Ride safe.
I’m not 6 inches off the kerb – I’m at least 12in away from the second yellow line (it does look like the kerb edge in the vid but its not – I promise)- but yes – there was a discussion about this on youtube.
I didn’t realise the time and thought that cars weren’t allowed down it (I thought it was past 7am).
Needless to say, the day after I cycled right down the middle so someone couldn’t squeeze past – but that doesn’t stop people sometimes either – ha ha.
