Clive, thanks for your kind words and support.

I agree wholeheartedly with what your saying. I am guilty of the odd mistake both on my bike and in my car and learn from these mistakes.

Unfortunately, there are a minority of people on our roads who don’t care for the people around them and the consequences of their actions.

As a professional (heavy goods) driver, I fully support the aims of this website. No driver of competent standard should feel threatened by this site. Being aware of our mistakes is all part of an ongoing improvement in driving standards. To deny that we ever do anything wrong is the route to deterioration of those standards.
In a perfect world, we should all be courteous, considerate and careful of other road users needs. Professional drivers on the whole do this for each other and I would hope for all road users. This not only eases the journey, but results in happiness rather than frustration and anger. We should all try it.

I grew up near there, good to see its the same as ever.

That was a dangerous action given the oncoming traffic, and given you have video of the drive and his use of a phone, send the video to the Met police via their bad driving site, https://secure.met.police.uk/roadsafelondon/

This would be a good experiment to see if it works.

Ride that junction every day, nearly always have buses still turning from the left when the light has gone green. Can only assume that the timing isn’t well set up on the lights.

I wouldn’t have let the cycle lane obstruction bother me had the driver not also occupied half of the ASL zone. That element of the clip shows that it’s more a case of negligence by the driver rather than narrow lanes. You can’t see it on the clip, but I glanced at the driver as I went around the front of the bus and he gave me a pretty nasty look which adds to my suspicion that he was just being a prick.

Admittedly this isn’t a case of terribly bad driving, but I figure that bus drivers should be setting more of an example on the roads. Surely they’ve had to undertake additional training to be entrusted with handling such huge vehicles, and we all know what the ASL zones are for. I really expect that their road safety skills and observance of the rules should be top notch. Buses are such a potential hazard on the roads that nothing less is acceptable, in my opinion. I observe all of the road rules while I’m cycling, bus drivers should be doing the same.

Although naughty – its clear that this road isn’t wide enough for a cycle lane. Perhaps he’s doing it intentionally to stop the cyclist from trying to come up the side, which is dangerous for both cyclist and bus driver?

There is no excuse for the ASL though.

Then I have to decipher the entertaining chinglish instructions for the camera.
And then i can start filming all the appalling driving I see on my daily commute!
